In the July 10 issue of The Economist, I read an article about the expansion of company wellness programs written by the noted Austrian Joseph Schumpeter. He described organizations with wellness programs ranging from those that only have an exercise room, then various firms somewhere in the middle (maybe a fitness center, smoking cessation classes) all the way to companies with more comprehensive programs emerging from simultaneous developments in health care and management theory.

Panelists will discuss health reform at Fittest Execs program
BizTimes Media, in partnership with the Wisconsin Athletic Club, Midland Health, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Wellness Council of Wisconsin will present the annual Fittest Execs Forum and Awards event. Honoring the participants from the fourth annual Fittest Execs competition, the 2010 Fittest Execs Forum and Awards event will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. at the Harley-Davidson Museum, 400 W. Canal St., Milwaukee.

Since its inception in 1985, the Wellness Council of Wisconsin has worked to engage employers across the state in promoting wellness at their organization. More than 400 companies have joined the discussion and pledged their support of corporate wellness.
