What does your daily or weekly fitness regime consist of? I do some aerobic activity at least six days per week with a mix of weight training four days per week using a variety of training methods ranging from heavy weight with low reps, to low weight and multiple sets of high reps. I also walk the four flights to my office everyday and try to avoid the elevator whenever possible.

What fitness clubs do you belong to, if any? We have a workout room at our Law Firm. I also workout with a trainer at Vita in the Third Ward and at the gym in my condo building.

Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life? Being fit has allowed me to keep up with my four daughters without a problem and feel like I have set a good example for them. It has also allowed me to be able to do things with my wife and kids. It is fun to participate in athletic activities with people 10-20 years younger than me and not feel tired. There is only one fountain of youth and that is a regular workout program

How does personal fitness affect your work life? Stamina to work the hours needed in preparing for and conducting a jury trial. Personal fitness also allows me to able to deal with the stresses of a law practice and in helping to manage the firm.

How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization? Reduction in sick days, generally better attitudes among co-workers, and a sense of pride that people are taking care of themselves.

What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative? Find someone who knows fitness and can direct one into a program that will yield results rather than frustration. This is a life style change that must become a habit, an appointment that one gives themselves to produce a healthier lifestyle and be able to feel younger and healthier. Having a workout partner to whom one is accountable is also important to sticking with a program. I also strongly advocate that people keep a workout journal which will demonstrate progress and will serve as a gentle reminder if one has missed workouts.
