What does your daily or weekly fitness regime consist of? In summer I play baseball (hardball) at least once per week in the Milwaukee MSBL (Mens Senior Baseball League). In winter, I play basketball once per week with a group of friends at Catholic Memorial High School. In addition to the above, I try to incorporate a once or twice weekly 30+ minute walk on the treadmill or outside, depending on the time of year.

Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life? I participated in formal athletic programs as I was growing up, so staying fit was natural for me. Being fit allows me to continue participating in any sporting activities that may come my way, providing a consistent outlet for my competitive spirit.

How does personal fitness affect your work life? I cannot remember ever missing a day of work in the last 20 years due to illness. I have energy to take on any challenge that the work day brings.

How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization? Our wellness programs have been helpful in getting our entire workforce to better understand one of our core business disciplines – employee benefits consulting. We design and implement wellness programs for our customers and now have engagement and new ideas coming from througout the organization.

What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative? For a corporate wellness program, make sure you have senior level support and involvement in the program. It will go nowhere without this essential starting point.
