A 122,500-square-foot indoor sports complex is planned northeast of West National and South Racine avenues in New Berlin.
According to city documents, New Berlin-based
Kahle Builders LLC and affiliate Ethic Development LLC are proposing to construct the facility at 5330 S. Racine Ave. Known as Ethic, the facility would be used for training and recreational space for families and sports teams.
Ethic would offer indoor fields and court rental for youth team training and a variety of camps and classes for all ages, and would host indoor tournaments and events year-round for such sports as baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball. It would also offer adult training memberships for use of the gym or classes. Lastly, it would also have sports medicine services, a cafe and athletic apparel for sale.
The facility would employ between 7-10 people, and would be open seven days a week. The gym hours would be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and the rest of the building would be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
The project is up for review by the city's Plan Commission on Tuesday, July 21. Up for approval is a rezoning of the property to allow for the development to occur, in addition to the proposed use of the facility, site plans and architectural plans.
In a staff report, the Department of Community Development recommended the project be approved by the city. The proposal would need final approval from the Common Council.
Kahle Builders did not immediately return a request for comment.
