Walmart buys former Brown Deer Lowe’s store for $4 million

Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart recently purchased the former Lowe’s store property at 6300 W. Brown Deer Road in Brown Deer for $4 million, according to state records. The property was sold by Wilkesboro, N.C.-based Lowe’s Home Center Inc.

The Lowe’s store closed in 2011 and was one of 20 underperforming stores that the home improvement retailer closed at that time.

Walmart plans to open a supercenter store, including a grocery department, at the former Brown Deer Road Lowe’s store property.

In 2012 Walmart closed its store at 8700 N. Servite Dr., Milwaukee, located southwest of Brown Deer Road and North 76th Street near the former Northridge Mall and about a mile west of the former Brown Deer Lowe’s store site. At the time Walmart said it was replacing that store, which did not have a grocery department, with a new supercenter store with grocery that it opened in Timmerman Plaza at 10330 W. Silver Spring Dr., Milwaukee, six miles to the southwest of the Servite Drive store.
