Vision Forward’s fifth annual signature fundraiser will give patrons first-hand perspective of the obstacles faced by individuals living without vision through a “Dining in the Dark” experience.
During the “Dining in the Dark” benefit event on Sunday, Nov. 3, patrons will be blindfolded as they eat a gourmet meal and rely on all their senses to enjoy it.
Dr. Thomas Connor Jr., associate professor of ophthalmology at the Eye Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin, is chairing this year’s dinner and serving as the event speaker.
“‘Dining in the Dark’ is a wonderful social event, cultural event, consciousness-expanding event,” said Dr. Connor. “It heightens awareness about vision loss while giving you a chance to enhance your own sensory environment. It’s a great and delicious way to increase that awareness because everyone’s on the same page with the same set of challenges before them.”
“We are extremely proud and excited (for) the fifth annual ‘Dining in the Dark,’” said Terri Davis, executive director of Vision Forward Association. “This unique opportunity calls attention to our agency’s vision loss services and the abilities of people of all ages who are blind and visually impaired people in our community while raising critical funds that support our mission.”
“Dining in the Dark” will be held at 5 p.m. at Bacchus, located at 925 E. Wells St. in Milwaukee. Tickets cost $250 and are available at www.dininginthedarkmke.org.
