Irgens celebrated the groundbreaking of 833 East on Wednesday with a ceremony featuring the first steps of demolition.

The 17-story office tower will be located at 833 E. Michigan St. in downtown Milwaukee and will contain 358,017 square feet of office space.

Construction for the $101.51 million project is expected to be complete in February of 2016. The general contractor for the project is Milwaukee-based CG Schmidt, and the architect is Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater.

Irgens plans to lease 168,155 square feet in the office building, and additional confirmed tenants include Godfrey & Kahn, Colliers International|Wisconsin, Jason Inc., First American Title Insurance Company, and Cresa.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the U.S. Bank Center, which will be connected to the 833 East building. Featured speakers included Gov. Scott Walker, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Department of City Development Commissioner Rocky Marcoux.
