UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin has partnered with DreamBikes of Milwaukee to launch the “CEOs for Cycling” program, which collects and refurbishes bikes for kids and adults in the Milwaukee community who may not be able to afford them on their own.
On June 24, UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin and UnitedHealthcare’s Professional Cycling Team will host a luncheon and bike ride for participating companies and the nonprofit organizations receiving the donated bikes.
“CEOs for Cycling reflects UnitedHealthcare and our partnering companies’ commitment to encourage and support healthy and active lifestyles in our community,” said Wendy Arnone, chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare. “Riding a bike is a fun and effective way for families to stay healthy and spend quality time together.”
CEOs of local organizations, including Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Wisconsin Energy Foundation and Bucyrus International Inc., will participate in the program.
Participating businesses are sponsoring bike drives to collect donated bikes for kids and adults, and each company is also donating $2,500 to DreamBikes to finance the cost of refurbishing the donated bikes and distributing them to local youth and families, Arnone said.
“We’re honored to collaborate with these local companies on this exciting program,” said Toni Grewuch, of DreamBikes. “One of our goals at DreamBikes is to make healthy and active lifestyles possible for all families by making bicycles available to everyone. This program is a great example of local companies taking the lead in raising awareness of those ideals and helping others enjoy the fun and healthy benefits of riding a bike.”
UnitedHealthcare of Wisconsin already collected 37 bicycles at its bike drive earlier this month with its employees at its Wauwatosa office.Wheaton Franciscan is conducting its bicycle drive June 4. The bicycle drives are open to the public, and each company has set a goal to collect at least 25 bicycles. People interested in donating a used bicycle to the CEOs for Cycling program may contact DreamBikes at (414) 763-0909 or info@dream-bikes.org.
