Learn more about:

Tesla Motors will install a supercharging station for electric vehicles at the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets as part of its nationwide rollout of charging stations for its car owners.

This is the first supercharging station in Wisconsin.

The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission has approved the installation, which will provide space for eight vehicles to plug into charging posts.

The electrical equipment for the chargers will be installed on 1,525 square feet of property near the new parking spaces, within a fenced enclosure with landscaping, according to the plan commission.

Tesla owners can use the charging stations 24 hours per day, every day. The Tesla superchargers provide for a half charge in 20 minutes and a full charge in less than an hour.

Tesla has sold more than 10,000 electric vehicles globally. It has been installing superchargers along well-traveled routes in the U.S.

On Thursday, Tesla held a ribbon-cutting for its supercharger station at the Cherryvale Mall in Rockford, Ill. There is also a station in Normal, Ill.

Tesla plans to add four other superchargers in Wisconsin this year. Once complete, the Midwest network will allow for long-distance travel between Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.
