Innovation, training and trust are the foundations upon which Menomonee Falls-based Tailored Label Products built its growth.
According to Michael Erwin, chief executive officer of the label manufacturing company, the first step was growing geographically, and the second step was maintaining its innovation pipeline.
“We want to be an engineering resource for our clients,” Erwin said. “We’ve generated a variety of patents, and we strive to develop products and processes that help (our clients) launch new products and gain market share.”
Thanks to the organization’s 3×3 Program, all company employees are trained on at least three positions within the company, and many are trained on more, Erwin said.
“To maintain productivity, each job has at least three people in the company (that) can perform it to a proficient level,” Erwin said. “Even my position runs three deep. The cross training and development helps our company thrive.”
Not only does the program provide depth and efficiency for Tailored Label, but it also ensures the employees stay on top of the latest manufacturing equipment, technology and processes.
Now 30 years old, the company has carved out a niche in high endurance, technically complex polymer-based products.
Tailored Label Products’ clients consist of companies throughout the U.S., and abroad, that require unique images, colors and geometry to last the lifetime of their products.
Global companies like Coca-Cola, GM, KIA, Hyundai and Toyota use TLP-manufactured products.
“It’s not just printing and sticking on a label,” Erwin said. “We’ve invested in several pieces of state-of-the-art technology that allow us to better serve our clients.”
The advanced technology allows the company to offer quicker turnaround times, do shorter runs, print high value graphics, and color match.
Each year, Tailored Label invests in four to five new pieces of technology for its operations, Erwin said. The new technology opens the door to serve new clients. According to Erwin, the company has added 57 new customers since January 1, and plans to continue that growth.
