‘Rock the Park’ to bring music festival to Wauwatosa

While Summerfest will soon enliven Milwaukee’s lakefront, Horizon Home Care & Hospice will bring the same energy to Wauwatosa with its first ever “Rock the Park.”

The day-long music festival, to be held in Hart Park on Saturday, June 28, will feature a smorgasbord of entertainment with live music, DJs, children’s performances, yoga, face painting, and food and beverage vendors onsite.

Musicians slated to perform include Parallel, Mahogany Soul, and Spanglemaker along with classic rock headliner Almighty Vinyl.

The free event, which is family friendly and open to the public, will include a raffle and vendor sales to raise funds for Horizon Home Care & Hospice, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit that provides rehabilitation, home care and end of life care to individuals and families in need.

More importantly, the organization said, the day will act as a “friendraiser” to recruit more volunteers as well as spread awareness about its mission.

Horizon Home Care & Hospice, which is affiliated with Froedtert Health and Columbia St. Mary’s, serves more than 2,500 patients a day through home health care, hospice services, palliative care, a grief resource center, geriatric care management and more.

Often when people think of the kinds of hospice services the organization offers, they associate those services with “scary” issues like death and dying, said Katy Corey, director of development for Horizon.

When Horizon formed the idea for “Rock the Park,” they set out to brighten people’s visions of their services, Corey said.

“We wanted a celebration,” she said. “We wanted to make sure that when people heard Horizon Home Care & Hospice, they weren’t associating our organization with something scary.”

The nonprofit wants people to recognize that it is “about living in the present moment and making lasting memories,” Corey said.

Horizon expects more than 500 attendees at its inaugural “Rock the Park,” which will likely become an annual event. Festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Hart Park and the Rotary Performance Pavilion, located at 68th and State Streets in Wauwatosa.
