Potawatomi launches 2014 ‘Miracle’ program

Potawatomi Hotel & Casino introduced its 10 “Miracle on Canal Street” signature charities on Tuesday as it launched its 2014 charity drive.

The casino has hosted the “Miracle on Canal Street” charity program for the past 21 years as a means of raising funds for area nonprofit organizations that work to improve the lives of children.

Funds from this year’s charity program, raised primarily through special bingo games played at the casino from August through early December, will benefit after-school programming, arts programming and programming for children of military families, the casino said.

The 2014 signature charities, chosen by media partners, are: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, First Stage, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, Penfield Children’s Center, Safe Babies Healthy Families, Sojourner Family Peace Center, The Parenting Network, USO of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Humane Society.

In November, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino will randomly select 20 additional nonprofits to receive funds from the “Miracle” pot.
The 2014 fundraising total will be announced on Dec. 12, following the wrap up of “Miracle” bingo games on Dec. 11.

Last year’s charity program generated more than $1 million and benefitted more than 150 charitable causes in the region. In the last 21 years, “Miracle on Canal Street” has donated more than $13.6 million to regional nonprofits focused on youth.
