Polar plunge benefiting cancer research set for Saturday

Winter warriors are set to take the plunge to support cancer research on Saturday at Nagawicka Lake in Hartland. Ellen’s Icebreaker for Cancer Research is held in memory of Ellen Smith, a Froedtert Hospital employee who died from gastric cancer in October 2013 at the age of 59.

This is the third year of the event, which is organized by Rick Smith, Ellen’s husband, and his employer, JX Enterprises.  Proceeds benefit cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. The event has raised $70,000 since its inception.

People who do not wish to brave the elements can participate by donating in support of someone making the plunge.

To register to attend as a spectator or a “plunger,” visit www.Ellensway.org.

Nagawicka Lake is located in Waukesha County’s Naga-Waukee Park, 651 Hwy 83, in Hartland.
