The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee was recently awarded a 2011 YMCA-Annie E. Casey Foundation Families Count Family Strengthening Award.
The Y received an Excellence Award for its NEW Kids at the Y program (Nutrition, Exercise, Weight Management) and received $15,000 to support and enhance this family strengthening initiative.
“At the Y, we believe healthy families equal strong communities,” said Janet McMahon, vice president of Healthy Living Strategy, YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. “We are proud of the accomplishments of our family strengthening efforts and are grateful to Y-USA and the Annie E. Casey Foundation for recognizing our work. The foundation’s award has helped us provide critical support for more families in need and deepen the impact we are making in the Milwaukee community.”
This is the sixth year that YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), the national resource office for the nation’s 2,700 YMCAs, with support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, has presented awards to Ys whose work helps develop strong, capable and financially stable families.
“The Ys selected to receive FAMILIES COUNT Family Strengthening Awards this year truly make a difference in their communities,” said Bonnie Howard, director at the Annie E.
