A Web site that will be a portal to other sites that promote Milwaukee or otherwise offer information on the metropolitan area is being developed for Spirit of Milwaukee.
The site, www.metromilwaukee.org, should be ready by December, said Dean Amhaus, president of Spirit of Milwaukee. Amhaus discussed the portal in a presentation on his group to the Independent Business Association at its Oct. 18 Milwaukee meeting.
Amhaus likened the site, which is being developed by OnMilwaukee.com, to www.wisconsin.gov – the state government portal that serves as an access point to governmental agencies and related organizations.
OnMilwaukee.com earlier this year developed a portal for area colleges and universities to promote Milwaukee to prospective students from outside the area. The site stands by itself at www.milwaukee.collegelife.com, and can be tailored to incorporate the individual identities of each of the 12 participating schools.
The Web-oriented college collaboration was the first of its kind nationally.
Metromilwaukee.org will be "like the MilwaukeeColllegeLife site on steroids," Amhaus said.
Spirit of Milwaukee is a private non-profit corporation whose mission is to educate the public, both locally and nationally, about greater Milwaukee’s many cultural, educational, historical and scientific institutions; and, to encourage greater utilization of those assets.
The organization is on the Web at www.spiritofmilwaukee.org.
