New hosptial proposed in Lake County

Learn more about:

Waukegan-based Vista Health System is reviving its plan for a new, $131 million hospital in nearby Lindenhurst, setting the stage for another bruising battle over a major health care construction project.

Vista’s 132-bed proposal comes on the heels of a protracted fight between competing plans by Centegra Health System and Mercy Health System to construct a new hospital in McHenry County, a contest eventually won by Centegra.

Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which opposed both McHenry plans, is less than 15 miles south of Lindenhurst. Both Condell and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, which is nearly 18 miles away from the village, opposed Vista’s freestanding emergency center that opened last year near Grand Avenue and Deep Lake Road, the same site as the proposed hospital.
