Facility will be college’s first new building in 20+ years

Mount Mary College on Milwaukee’s west side will break ground this month for the college’s first new building in more than 20 years.
Construction of the $7 million Science, Technology, and Campus Center will begin June 11 and is scheduled to be completed in 2003.
The 31,000-square-foot building is the cornerstone of the college’s $19 million capital campaign, which also includes plans for a recreation center and expanded programing. To date, the school has raised $16 million.
The main level of the three-story center will house a cyber café, an electronic lecture hall, presentation and meeting rooms, the Women’s Leadership Institute and student organization offices. The second and third floors will be dedicated to nursing, occupational therapy, and science classrooms and laboratories.
The expansion will provide future classroom space for nursing students who arrive on campus this fall. Earlier this year, Mount Mary College announced a partnership with Columbia College of Nursing to offer a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Tues., June 11 on the east campus of Mount Mary College, behind Notre Dame Hall, 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway.
