A group of Kenosha investors are working on plans for a mixed use development southwest of Green Bay Road and County Highway E in the Town of Somers near the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus.

The investors group, MIR Group LLC, plans to build more than 200,000 square feet of retail space, an 80 to 90-room hotel and 96 to 130 apartments on the 60-acre site, said Fouad Saab, the architect and planner for the project and the president and CEO of Saab Design.

Work on the project began in 2008 but was shelved during the Great Recession, Saab said. “It was dormant for over four years,” he said. “We’re re-tooling it now to fit with different users.”

The apartments in the project could provide housing for UW-Parkside students and employees, Saab said.

The development would also help fill in the gap between Kenosha and Racine, he said.
Construction could begin in early 2015 and the first buildings could be complete in 2017, Saab said. The site is currently used for agriculture and needs street and sewer infrastructure to be installed, he said.
