County puts former Midwest Airlines hangar buildings up for sale

Now considered surplus properties

Milwaukee County issued notification Wednesday that it is putting two surplus buildings at Mitchell International Airport up for sale, which were formerly used as hangars for Midwest Airlines.

One is the former Midwest Airlines main hangar, a 189,100-square-foot building at 555 W. Air Cargo Way. The building, constructed in 1989, has 118,000 square feet of hangar space and 71,100 square feet of office and maintenance shop space. The asking price for the building is $8.5 million.

The other airport building listed for sale by the county is the former Skyway Airlines hangar at 401 E. Layton Ave. Skyway Airlines was a division of Midwest Airlines. The 72,000-square-foot structure is located at the corner of Layton and Howell Avenue. The building, constructed in 2002, has 48,000 square feet of hangar space and 24,000 square feet of office shop space. The asking price for the building is $3.8 million.
