Marquette to announce new head coach

Marquette University will host a news conference at 2 p.m. today at the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St., to announce it has hired a new head men’s basketball coach.

The Associated Press and several other national media outlets are reporting that the new Marquette coach will be Duke University assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski.

Marquette president-elect Michael Lovell and interim athletic director Bill Cords will speak before introducing the new coach to the Marquette community. The news conference is open to the public.

The 37-year-old Wojciechowski would take over for Buzz Williams, who left Marquette for Virginia Tech last month.

Wojciechowski was a guard for coach Mike Krzyzewski’s Duke teams from 1994 to 1998. Wojciechowski has been a member of Duke’s staff since 1999.
