Local stocks end week with deep plunge

The BizTimes Stock Index is ending the week with a whimper, giving away its
record-breaking gains posted earlier in the week. The local stock index lost 1.81
points to close at 154.19 Thursday, and local stocks continued to plummet this morning. The largest local decliners this morning were Modine Manufacturing Co. (down $2.49 to $34.49) and Gehl Co. (down $1.20 to $46.26). The largest local advancers this morning were Johnson Outdoors Inc. (up 28 cents to $17.28) and Oilgear Co. (up 18 cents to $16.23). The BizTimes Stock Index was created by Small Business Times and is monitored by North Shore Bank. The index, which measures the stock values of publicly held companies based in southeastern Wisconsin, is updated daily and can be viewed at www.biztimes.com.
