St. Marcus School in Milwaukee has been selected as one of five organizations in Green Bay-based Shopko Stores Inc., ‘Choose a Charity’ contest. The winner will receive a $10,000 donation from the Shopko Foundation.
"Shopko views each community where we have operations as our ‘hometown’ and we are thankful for the opportunity to do business in these communities," said Paul Jones, president and chief executive officer of Shopko.  "The mission of the Shopko Foundation is to support the well-being of Shopko communities and the ‘Choose the Charity’ contest is an exciting way for our Facebook fans to be involved in our charitable giving."
The contest, which allows Facebook fans to vote for one of the five organizations, is an effort to strengthen the communities it serves, Jones said.
The "Choose the Charity" contest runs from now until Monday, March 12. Facebook fans can visit Shopko’s Facebook page to learn about each organization and vote for the group that they would like to receive the donation. The top vote-getter will receive the $10,000 donation from the Shopko Foundation. The winner will be announced on March 13.
In addition to St. Marcus School, the groups chosen to participate in the contest are: The Hope House of Green Bay, The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery of Spokane, Wash., The Children’s Center of Salt Lake City, Utah, and One World Community Health Centers in Omaha, Neb.
The organizations were selected based on the high quality of services that they provide, the strong support that they enjoy in their communities and their track records of proven results..
