Jumpstart on the Weekend

  • Friday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 9, Indian Summer Festival will take place at Henry Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Drive in Milwaukee. The festival is open to the general public beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday and will celebrate American Indian cultures with a tribal farmers market, a children’s fashion show, canoe rides and the 12th annual Dylan’s 2-mile. Traditional music and dancers will also be part of the celebration. Admission costs $13 for adults at the gate, $10 for patrons age 60+, and children 12 and under get in free.   • Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8, the Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival will bring live music to Riverside Park, located off Washington Street in West Bend. Presented by West Bend Sunrise Rotary Foundation, the festival features international jazz musicians with live, outdoor concerts. The event also includes an arts marketplace where local and regional artists sell their handmade pieces, food from area restaurants and a selection of wine and beers. Music begins at 5:15 p.m. on Friday and at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be ordered online or requested by mail, fax or phone and will be held at Will Call to be picked up with a photo ID.   • Saturday, Sept. 8, International Food & Art Walk in Silver City will be held on National Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets in Milwaukee from noon to 5 p.m. The celebration, presented by ART Milwaukee and Layton Blvd West Neighbors and free to the public, will feature ethnic food from 12 neighborhood restaurants, live music, a live dance show, a break dance competition, an open mic competition and artists onsite.   • Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9, the annual Uptown Ford Lincoln Frank Mots International Kite Festival will be held at Veteran’s Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive in Milwaukee. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. It will feature kite displays, a kite raffle and auctions, kites for sale in the Gift of Wings kite store in Veteran’s Park, mass kite launches, and a show of giant kites in the Midwest.
