Bishop’s Creek Community Development Corp., a non-profit developer, is proposing a mixed use redevelopment project including a 48-room hotel for the third phase of its Bishop’s Creek project at the former Kaiser tannery site southwest of North 32nd Street and West Hampton Avenue on Milwaukee’s north side. Bishop’s Creek Community Development Corp. is an affiliate of Holy Redeemer Church of God in Christ.

The first phase for the Bishop’s Creek project was a 55-unit low income housing complex, which was completed last year. The second phase is a 40- to 55-bed dormitory for Holy Redeemer Christian Academy, 3500 W. Mother Daniels Way. The dormitory is complete and will be occupied in the fall.

The proposed third phase of the project would be a mixed-use redevelopment of a 5-story, 125,000-square-foot building. The hotel would be located on floors 2-5 on the north section of the building.

“The 48 bed hotel is slated to be a mid-range overnight stay facility targeted towards families and travelers,” Bishop’s Creek Community Development Corp. said in documents filed with the city. “We anticipate the hotel to be operated-managed by a nationally recognized brand like Choice Hotels.”

The building would also have 15,000 square feet of office and retail space on the first floor and part of the second floor. Plans also include 16 residential units on floors 4-5 on the south section of the building.

The project will be reviewed by the City Plan Commission on Monday, Oct. 3.
