Gielow appointed to the Wisconsin Arts Board

Gov. Scott Walker has named Mequon resident Mary Gielow to the Wisconsin Arts Board.

The board, based in Madison under the Department of Tourism, is an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Arts. Each of the 15 board members is selected by the governor to serve three-year terms. Board members are Wisconsin residents who have made significant contributions to arts, humanities, business education or public service.

Gielow owns and operates a public relations and author tour company called Luminaries, LLC that caters to Milwaukee and Madison. She is also the executive director of the Cedar Creek Settlement Merchants Association in Cedarburg.

Gielow has also been an active member and volunteer with several arts and nonprofits initiatives throughout greater Milwaukee. She has served as publicity chair of Cedarburg Festivals for 20 years and is a board member of the Mequon-Thiensville Library and Festivals of Cedarburg, Inc. She previously served as a council member and chairman of the Wisconsin Humanities Council.

Her community involvement extends to the Cedarburg Christmas Committee, the Junior League of Milwaukee, Rite Hite YMCA, the Milwaukee Symphony League, Gathering on the Green, the UWM Peck School of the Arts, the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design Scholarship Board, Future Milwaukee, Professional Dimension, and the Milwaukee Press Club.
