Circumstance and faith played a large role in Gary Swick’s entrepreneurial path. In the 1990s, Swick worked full-time for a consulting business, and on the side, offered part-time computer assistance for small businesses and other clients.

“I joined a new church in 2000, and it really taught me a lot about giving back to the community,” Swick said. “Between my full-time job and my side business I was working too many hours to volunteer as much as I’d like to.”

Swick prayed about the situation, he said, and decided on a business plan that offered clients a fixed monthly fee for IT management and consulting services. The next day, one of his customers called and asked for the exact service.

He started his company in 2001, and merged with another company in 2004 to form Swick Technologies.

He ran the company out of his home for nearly five years, until it needed more space in 2009. Swick has grown to 24 employees and has since expanded to 8,000 square feet of office space in New Berlin.

“We do what’s right for the customer,” Swick said. “Our business is built on quality service and integrity. We don’t cut corners, and we deliver what we promise.”

Owning his own business has allowed Swick a vehicle to do even more for the community. Swick Technologies was recently named one of the Fastest Growing Companies in the ActionCOACH of Elm Grove program, and Swick plans to get systems in place to scale the business to more than $10 million in annual revenue.
