Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin intends to hire around 145 full- and part-time employees to fill staff positions at the three-story, 109,000 square-foot health center under construction at the Drexel Town Square development in Oak Creek.
The hospital system plans to lease the health center beginning late next fall and released a statement this morning detailing its staffing and operations plans for the new facility.
The health center will include facilities for primary care, urgent care, an outpatient surgery center and a cancer center. Froedtert & MCW representatives said in the statement that 14 Froedtert & MCW doctors will  practice at the location in addition to the full- and part-time employees it plans to hire in the first year of its lease. Additional job growth is expected in the coming years, representatives said.
“Many of our patients come from the Oak Creek, South Milwaukee, Caledonia and Racine County areas, and this location will be a comprehensive, close-to-home option with a streamlined connection to the Froedtert & MCW academic medical center if needed,” said Dr. Mark Lodes, president of Froedtert & MCW Community Physicians.
Construction on the health center, designed by Eppstein Uhen Architects, began this summer on the corner of Drexel Avenue and 6th Street and is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. The project developer is HSA PrimeCare and CG Schmidt is the general contractor.
Froedtert & MCW announced plans to open a primary and specialty care facility at Drexel Town Square in January 2015. At the time, hospital officials anticipated the building would be 125,000- to 150,000-square-feet and employ up to 250 employees when fully built.
Wispark LLC, the commercial real estate development arm of We Energies, is the lead development firm for the mixed-use Drexel Town Square project at Drexel and Howell avenues.
