Froedtert named top hospital

Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin has been ranked as the top hospital in the Milwaukee metro area and one of the top two hospitals in Wisconsin by U.S. News & World Report.

The ranking is part of the 2014-2015 Best Hospitals list, which was released Tuesday. The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics took the No. 1 spot in Wisconsin.

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center was second in the metro Milwaukee area and third in the state. Wheaton Franciscan-St. Joseph ranked third in the metro area and fourth in the state.
Froedtert Hospital was also ranked among the top national providers in diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and GI surgery; nephrology; pulmonology; and urology.

It was among the top 50 U.S. hospitals in cancer; cardiology and heart surgey; geriatrics; gynecology; neurology and neurosurgery; and orthopaedics.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be ranked Milwaukee’s top hospital, and one of two top hospitals in Wisconsin,” said Cathy Buck, Froedtert Hospital president. “This distinction would not be possible without an ongoing commitment to quality and service excellence that is shared by our Medical College of Wisconsin physician partners and the entire Froedtert Hospital staff.”

The U.S. News rankings have been published for more than 20 years. They take into account factors including patient safety, reputation, mortality rate, nursing and technology. Almost 5,000 hospitals are evaluated, and just 144 exhibited a performance that merited a ranking in at least one of its 16 medical specialties.
