Precision Plus Inc., an Elkhorn-based contract manufacturer of precision turned components, specializing in Swiss-type turning, plans to build a 72,000-sqaure-foot addition to its plant at 840 Koopman Lane.
The addition will increase the plant’s size from 45,000 square feet to 117,000 square feet of space.
The expansion is needed because of “a lot of business growth and even bigger opportunities in front of us,” said company president Mike Reader. Opportunities have emerged after numerous competitors went out of business during the Great Recession.
“We’ve been very aggressive in preparation for business to bounce back, and it has,” Reader said.
Construction is expected to begin sometime between this fall and next summer. The biggest challenge for the project will be finding enough skilled employees to staff the facility, Reader said.
“The skills gap you hear about is real,” he said.
The company currently has about 50 employees and needs to add another 25 to 30 employees. The company needs to add engineers, machinists and machine operators, Reader said.
