El Rey store to open in former south side Sentry store

An El Rey grocery store will open on Saturday, Oct. 15, in the former Sentry store space at 5200 W. Oklahoma Ave., on Milwaukee’s south side. The 22,000-square-foot store was remodeled and refurbished.

“It’s taken a little longer than we first planned on and the renovation has been much more extensive than we first though, but in the end it will be worth the time and expense,” said store manager Nelson Lang. “

The El Rey store will have about 100 employees. The store will feature El Rey’s signature Hispanic grocery offerings and Serbian and Polish specialty items. The store will also have a restaurant, Taco Loco, which will feature Mexican foods and Serbian and Polish specials.

“At El Rey, we have always believe that good food can be a bridge bringing cultures together,” said Olivia Villarreal, El Rey co-founder.

El Rey Mexican Products has four Mexican grocery stores in Milwaukee, a wholesale division and a food manufacturing plant.
