Discovery World adds Monday hours

A recent Northwestern Mutual Foundation grant gifted to Discovery World will allow the museum to add Monday hours to its hours of operations this spring and summer.

The museum, which contains hands-on exhibits related to science and technology, has traditionally been closed on Mondays. Thanks to support from Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual, the museum will open its doors each Monday from April 6 through Aug. 31.

The extra hours of operation will equip Discovery World with the capacity to host more school groups and tourists as visits pick up throughout spring and summer months. The museum’s pique season runs March through June, and since the beginning of 2015, school field trips to Discovery World have jumped more than 25 percent over the same time frame last year.

“This generous support enables us to meet that increased demand from schools and provides more opportunities for the public to visit several brand new experiences we will unveil this summer,” Joel Brennan, president and chief executive officer of Discovery World, said in a press release.

The museum will tout the additional hours next week as Milwaukee Public Schools and other schools in the region go on spring break. During the week, the museum plans to facilitate special robotics events.

Northwestern Mutual Foundation’s recent grant adds to its passion for sustaining the city’s cultural amenities.

“Our hometown of Milwaukee is filled with a diverse array of arts, entertainment and cultural activities, which we’re honored to support as a company,” said John Kordsmeier, president of the foundation. “This grant allows one of these treasured destinations, Discovery World, to be open seven days a week, giving even more residents and tourists the opportunity to enjoy and learn at the museum.”

Discovery World’s standard admission rates will apply for Monday visitors. For more information on rates as well as the museum’s exhibits, visit www.discoveryworld.org.
