“Designing Milwaukee” will be the theme of the conference this year. The conference will focus on the latest trends in architectural design for commercial real estate development and will take a closer look at major building projects that will reshape the region and redefine Milwaukee’s skyline in coming years. The discussion will focus on how new developments are being designed to improve the way people live work and play.
The event will feature a panel discussion with some of the top architects in the Milwaukee area. The panelists are:
Greg Uhen, chief executive officer and managing partner of design for Milwaukee-based Eppstein Uhen Architects Inc. Uhen created the Long Range Lakefront Plan for the downtown Milwaukee lakefront area and has played a major role in design work for Miller Park, the Milwaukee Intermodal Station, the Manpower Group corporate headquarters and Summerfest facilities. He was the CEO and president of Eppstein Uhen for 15 years and recently transitioned into a new role allowing him to do more design work.
Matt Rinka, principal of Milwaukee-based Rinka Chung Architecture Inc. He founded the company in 2006. Rinka designed The Moderne, a new 30-story residential building in downtown Milwaukee, and is the designer for The Couture, a proposed 44-story mixed-use building near the Milwaukee lakefront, a new office building that will be built at the former Pabst brewery, and Drexel Town Square, a mixed-use downtown development planned in Oak Creek.
Glenn Roby, a principal at Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater. He has worked for Kahler Slater since 2008 and previously worked for Eppstein Uhen Architects for 10 years. He is the leader of Kahler Slater’s Business Environments Team, which focuses on real estate developers and end user clients. Major projects that Roby is or has worked on include the Global Water Center in Milwaukee and Irgens’ proposed 833 East, a 17-story office building that is proposed at 833 E. Michigan St. near the lakefront in downtown Milwaukee. He has also worked on projects for Eaton Corp., Baker Tilly Virchow Krause and Samsung Telecommunications America.
Tom Kubala, co-founder of Cedarburg-based The Kubala Washatko Architects Inc. Kubala and Allen Washatko started the company in 1980. Projects that Kubala has been involved in include: the Milwaukee Public Market, the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Bayside, the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan and the Johnson Health Tech corporate headquarters in Cottage Grove. The firm has also done work for Harley-Davidson, Alterra Coffee Roasters, the Iron Horse Hotel and the Growing Power Vertical Farm.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Mark Eppli, interim James H. Keyes Dean of Business Administration and Robert B. Bell, Sr., Chair in Real Estate at Marquette University.
