But VISIT Milwaukee and a few local tour guides are working hard to improve the image of the city as a visitor's destination, and they have started working with local companies to custom design tours of the city for their clients, business partners and potential employees from out of town.

Shorewood Mixed-Use

Mandel Group Inc. plans to begin construction this month on LightHorse | 4041, a mixed use development on Oakland Avenue in Shorewood. The building will have 84 apartments, 20 percent of them at “affordable” rents and an 18,000-square-foot Walgreens store. Mandel Group recently closed on the financing for the Shorewood project and the 155-unit second phase of its North End apartment complex development in downtown Milwaukee, which will also break ground this month. The total combined investment in the two developments is estimated by Mandel Group at more than $71 million.
