Marquette dental receives $1 million from alumni
Marquette University announced a $1 million donation from Marquette School of Dentistry alumnus Dr. Jeff Moos and his wife, Beth, to go toward the Building for the Future campaign and help fund the school's 40,000-square-foot expansion.

Gilda’s Club changes name but retains mission
Gilda’s Club of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. – a free support program for cancer victims of all backgrounds suffering from all types of cancer – is taking on a new name to better reflect its mission and its association with its national affiliate. The organization, a member of Cancer Support Community, now exists as Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee.
Fellowship Open awards Wayne Embry
The 2012 Fellowship Open is honoring NBA icon Wayne Embry with the Legends Award for his dedication to bettering Milwaukee both on the basketball court and in the greater community. Embry will receive the award while celebrating the 40th anniversary of becoming the first African-American general manager in all of professional sports with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Potawatomi announces changes to ‘Miracle’ program
Potawatomi Bingo Casino celebrated the opening of its signature charity program, Miracle on Canal Street, this week and introduced changes to the program in hopes of generating more excitement among bingo players, participating charities and the community.

Plankinton statue site to be restored
The John Plankinton statue standing in the Plankinton Building's central rotunda was temporarily removed Thursday morning and placed in storage while its base undergoes restoration. The base is in need of repair to regain structural stability. A new fountain will be added to the statue site during the restoration process, and aquatic life will be included in the creation of it. Officials plan to complete restoration by December 2012.
State Fair breaks attendance record
Wisconsin State Fair single-day attendance broke a record in place for over a decade when almost 127,900 people headed to the fair Sunday, Aug. 5, fair officials reported. Total fair attendance was 920,962 people, surpassing last year's count of 911,231.
Parade Display open at City Hall
Milwaukee City Hall will display puppets and floats featured in this year's All-City People's Parade through Thursday, Aug. 23.

The United States Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Demonstration Team opened the air segment of the Milwaukee Air and Water Show both Saturday, Aug. 11, and Sunday, Aug. 12, waving an 800-square-foot American flag as they landed on Bradford Beach.
