Status quo no longer works for state’s Medicaid program

It's no surprise that education and health care receive the most funding in the state budget. Education spending represents half of the budget. Health care costs represent a third of the budget. What is surprising, however, is the discrepancy in spending increases between these two budgets over recent years.

Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation donates $2.2 million to Aurora

In recognition of the organization’s 45th anniversary year, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation Board announced today that it will donate $2.2 million to Aurora Health Care to support cancer care research. The donation, which will be given to Aurora at the foundation’s annual meeting on May 29, is the largest annual gift in the foundation’s history.

American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest awarded $2 million grant

The American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest, based in Brookfield, was awarded a three-year, $2 million grant by the United Health Foundation to help support the “Partners for Asthma Action” project in 90 clinics across the Midwest, including the Milwaukee metro area.

Physicians Realty Trust narrows loss

Milwaukee-based Physicians Realty Trust, a self-managed health care real estate investment trust, today reported a fiscal first quarter net loss of $448,000, or 1 cent per share, which was an improvement over a net loss of $3.1 million, or 15 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

Tommy Thompson appointed to pharmaceutical company’s board of directors

Tyme Inc., a New York-based clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, on Tuesday announced that former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson will be appointed to its board of directors in the third quarter of 2015. Thompson, who also served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under former President George W. Bush, is currently an advisor to Tyme’s board.

Wisconsin health care ranks second highest in nation

Wisconsin is the second most highly-rated state in the country based on the quality of its health care, only behind New Hampshire, according to the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
