Medical College to open pharmacy school in 2017 or 2018
The Medical College of Wisconsin announced on Monday that it plans to open a school of pharmacy in existing space at the Wauwatosa campus in the summer of 2017 or 2018.
Medical College leads laser-activated cancer-fighting drug trial
The Medical College of Wisconsin is testing a laser-activated photosensitive dye as a new treatment for aggressive brain and spinal cord tumors. MCW has begun a Phase II trial of Photofrin and photodynamic therapy in adult patients at Froedtert Hospital, a protocol funded by Ontario-based Concordia Healthcare Corp.
Marquette to present forum on strokes
A panel of experts in biomedical engineering, medicine, physical therapy, and speech pathology and audiology from the Marquette University College of Health Sciences and the Medical College of Wisconsin will headline the next Marquette Presents forum on “Stroke – New Hope Through Rehabilitation.”
Mequon dentist provides free care to 400 Guatemalans
The 60,000 people who live in Comitancillo– an agricultural community outside of Guatemala City – have no access to basic health care and no means of transportation to get treatment. Dr. Shane Fisher, owner of The Kids Dentist LLC in Mequon, however, is doing his part to change that.
Anthem to provide free college degrees for employees
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced on Tuesday a new partnership to make an associate’s or bachelor’s degree available at no cost for any of its eligible full-time and part-time associates in Wisconsin through College for America at Southern New Hampshire University. College for America partners with employers to offer a competency-based, online curriculum that is engineered to help associates fit a fully-accredited college degree in the busy lives of working adults.
UWM College of Nursing receives $600,000 grant
The Helene Fuld Health Trust has awarded the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's College of Nursing a $600,000 grant that will increase scholarships available to graduate students in nursing.

UnitedHealthcare expands Healthy Savings program to more participants
UnitedHealthcare is expanding its Healthy Savings program to an additional 550,000 plan participants in Wisconsin, enabling people enrolled in self-funded employer, individual exchange and BadgerCare Plus Medicaid plans to purchase healthier foods at discounted prices.
