Brookfield building pitched for Milwaukee FBI office

Organizations:

The downtown Milwaukee FBI office could be moved to an office building in Brookfield.

The proposal will be reviewed next week by the Brookfield Plan Commission, according to Brookfield community development director Dan Ertl.

Milwaukee-based Mark Partners LLC plans to buy the three-story 103,553-square-foot office building at 440 S. Executive Dr. in Brookfield from Decade Properties Inc., Ertl said. The building would be leased to the FBI, he said.

“It’s at a very preliminary stage at this point,” said Miki Maric, a partner of Mark Partners. “There’s a process that’s under way. It’s just at the very preliminary stages.”

The building is one of several sites that the FBI is considering for its Milwaukee area office, Ertl and Maric said.

The Milwaukee FBI office is currently located at 330 E. Kilbourn Ave. in downtown Milwauke, where it occupies about 80,000 square feet of space.

The federal government has been considering plans to relocate that office. The decision will be made by the U.S. General Services Administration, said FBI spokesman Leonard Peace. A spokesman for the GSA could not be reached for comment.

The federal government’s request for lease proposals for the Milwaukee FBI field office requires, “an approximately 100,000-square-foot, secure, setback, stand alone, existing building served by two access drives,” Maric said.

“Federally mandated and increasingly stringent regulations since Oklahoma City (federal building bombing in 1995) and 911 (the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks) have in due course been applied to most new federal lease acquisitions,” Maric said.

The new site for the Milwaukee FBI field office is expected to be selected in the spring of 2014, Maric said. If the Brookfield site is selected for the FBI office, a renovation project of the building could be completed in 15 months in time for a mid-2015 occupancy for the FBI, he said.

Earlier this year Boca Raton, Fla.-based Procacci Development Corp. submitted a plan to the Village of Menomonee Falls to purchase a 105,000-square-foot office building at W180 N7950 Town Hall Road, that would be renovated and leased to the FBI. Menomonee Falls officials and a representative for Procacci could not be reached for comment this morning.
