Braun and Axford buy tickets for fans

Milwaukee Brewers players Ryan Braun and John Axford purchased 5,000 tickets for Sunday’s game to give to fans as part of the team’s Fan Appreciation Weekend.

The free tickets were quickly consumed by fans online this morning.
The Brewers will distribute rally towels to everyone at the Sunday game, as well as the games tonight and Saturday. In addition, all fans in attendance Sunday will receive a scratch-off card with prizes, ranging from 2013 game tickets to a game in a Miller Park suite.

“Brewers fans are without a doubt the best in baseball and we wanted to show them that their support has not gone unnoticed,” said Braun. “They make Miller Park the best home field advantage in the game.”

The Brewers have won 19 of their last 22 games at Miller Park and are 46-29 overall at home this season — a .613 winning percentage that is tied for sixth-best in Major League Baseball. The Brewers are clinging to their diminished chances of gaining a playoff berth in their final homestand.

“The fans have been a tremendous part of our recent turnaround,” said Axford. “It’s always great to play in front of a raucous Miller Park crowd. This is just a small gesture of our appreciation.”
