Kohler-based Kohler Engines, a division of Kohler Company, recently won a Dealers Choice Award from Power Trade Equipment magazine at the international Green Industry & Equipment Expo.

The company was recognized in the Industrial/Engine category for its Command PRO EFI FlexFuel E85, a closed-loop electronic fuel injection engine that accepts all ethanol fuel blends. Nearly 400 lawn and garden power equipment dealers participated in this year’s Power Trade Equipment magazine Dealers Choice Awards. Qualified dealers from across the country were able to vote for their favorite products in five categories via an online ballot or in person at the show.

Crowne Plaza Milwaukee West

The Crowne Plaza Milwaukee West hotel in Wauwatosa has received the Torchbearer Award and been named one of the brand’s top performers for excellence in operational and customer satisfaction. The award was presented by InterContinental Hotels Group at its annual conference in Las Vegas. The Torchbearer Award is the organization’s highest honor for quality and customer service and goes to only the top eight Crowne Plaza hotels in North America — all market leaders and the best in the Crowne Plaza portfolio.

In the four years since opening, Crowne Plaza Milwaukee West has seen steady increase in business, up almost 12 percent in revenue per available room this year as compared to last, and with operations respected across the industry.

Alverno College

Alverno College, Milwaukee, has formed a marketing partnership with Lyrical, whose parent company is The Yes Men Corp., and Advantage Media Services. Joe Locher of Lyrical has created emotional advertising and marketing messages for clients for the past 25 years, including the current campaigns of ProHealth Care and West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. Advantage Media Services, owned by Greg Libesch, is a media planning and buying company focused on creating integrated media plans for its clients. Alverno previously worked with the tandem from 2005 to 2008, which resulted in a widely recognized “out of home” outdoor billboard campaign shaped around the theme, “strong women.” The previous partnership helped result in an increase of Alverno’s undergraduate enrollment by 24 percent from the fall of 2004 to the fall of 2008.

Mueller Communications

Mueller Communications Inc., Milwaukee, has established a scholarship and internship in the name of the late Milwaukee public relations legend Ben Barkin. The Ben Barkin Scholarship Program will offer a $1,000 scholarship and paid summer internship to a full-time student entering his or her senior year in the fall of 2012. The scholarship program is designed for students who have demonstrated an interest in learning more about the communications and public relations fields. During the summer internship, the selected intern will have the opportunity to experience different areas of the firm’s expertise, such as public affairs, media relations, market research, crisis and corporate communications, community relations, business-to-business marketing, and graphic and Web design.
