Kenosha-based Environmental Health Concepts, Inc. has been awarded the designation of “Green Professional” in the 2014 Green Masters Program run by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. The designation signifies the company’s dedication to sustainability in business.

Companies that apply to be part of the Green Masters Program are evaluated on a variety of sustainability issues, including energy and water use, educational outreach and governance. More than 175 businesses statewide are part of the program, with the top 20 percent earning the highest “Green Master” designation. The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council has recognized Environmental Health Concepts largely for the environmental and social programs and practices it has implemented into its operations. Along with taking advantage of telecommuting, the company recycles and composts on-site, uses natural light as much as possible and uses only post-consumer recycled materials in its marketing initiatives.

Vernal Management Consultants

Vernal Management Consultants LLC will receive the 2014 Altenheim Award from the Lutheran Home Foundation at its 15th annual Monarch Ball to be held at the Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee on Saturday, Sept. 13. The consulting company is led by Karen Vernal, an expert columnist for BizTimes Milwaukee. Vernal’s company is being honored for its expertise, vision and commitment to improving the skills of the leaders at the Lutheran Home and Harwood Place in Wauwatosa for more than a decade. The theme for this year’s Monarch Ball is “This Moment in Time.” The event will feature an elegant dinner, a silent auction and a raffle. Proceeds will benefit the mission of the Lutheran Home Foundation, which provides a home for older adults. This year’s event co-chairs are Stephanie and Elias Chedid. Waterstone Mortgage Corp.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has named Pewaukee-based Waterstone Mortgage Corp. a 2013 Platinum Million Dollar Lender. The award is granted annually to lenders that have worked with Wisconsin rural residents trying to become homeowners through the USDA Guaranteed Rural Housing Program. The federal government distributes the Million Dollar Lender Award at silver, gold and platinum levels, according to total funding dollars used by the lender. During fiscal year 2013, Waterstone Mortgage used more than $5 million in GHR program funds to finance home purchases and help moderate-income individuals and families across the state. The company also closed more than 530 USDA loans across the country last year for the benefit of hundreds of homebuyers.

Milwaukee Public Television

Maryann Lazarski, a producer and director known for her work on documentaries and MPTV’s “Outdoor Wisconsin,” is being inducted into the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Milwaukee “Silver Circle.” The Milwaukee Silver Circle highlights professionals who have served the television industry for at least 25 years and have significantly impacted Milwaukee television. The honor is equated to a lifetime achievement award. Lazarski has been in the television industry for more than 30 years and has been a lead producer of “Outdoor Wisconsin” since 2012. The show stands as MPTV’s longest-running locally produced program, reaching its 30th season in 2014. Lazarski is also a producer for the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association/Wisconsin Museum of Broadcasting. Other award highlights of her career include an Emmy and a National Associated Press award. As a member of the Silver Circle, Lazarski joins MPTV inductees Dan Jones, producer and host of “Interchange;” Joanne Williams, producer and host of “Black Nouveau;” Darlyne Haertlein, manager of community relations; and Jack Abrams, retired producer of “Outdoor Wisconsin.”

Wilcox Environmental Engineering

Wilcox Environmental Engineering Inc. has established a service location in Cedarburg. The engineering firm, headquartered in Indianapolis, specializes in air analysis services, investigation and remediation services, permitting and compliance, health and safety services, demolition services, and vapor intrusion. The firm’s Cedarburg office is located at W63 N543 Hanover Ave. and is headed by Chris Bonniwell, Ph.D., who has served as the technical director of the investigation and remediation services division in Wilcox’s corporate office. In Cedarburg, he will work as the regional technical director and will help develop the firm’s technical practice in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest with attention to site investigation and remediation, industrial compliance, and stack testing services.
