Baird honors Lucroy for community involvement

Thanks to his philanthropic focus outside Miller Park, Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers has been named winner of the 2015 Baird Community Involved Player of the Year Award.

The award is presented by Milwaukee-based Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc. as a way to recognize standout athletes who are as generous with their time as they are talented in their sport.

Last year’s Community Involved Player of the Year Award was given to Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

Baird selected Lucroy for the 2015 designation in celebration of his involvement with a mix of community organizations, among them Camp Hometown Heroes, which organizes a week-long overnight summer camp for children of fallen military personnel.

Lucroy is also known for supporting Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, a Wisconsin-based organization that gives veterans opportunities to fly to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials commemorating them.

Baird has pledged to donate $2,500 to each organization as a tribute to Lucroy’s philanthropy.

“We are pleased to present the Baird Community Involved Player of the Year Award to Jonathan Lucroy in recognition of all he does to improve the lives of others,” Mary Ellen Stanek, managing director and chief investment officer for Baird, said in an announcement. “His commitment to serving our veterans and their families is truly exemplary. Baird is proud to sponsor this award, which aligns well with our culture and longstanding tradition of giving back to the communities in which our associates live and work and encouraging others to do the same.”

Additionally, Lucroy has backed the hiring of veterans in Milwaukee, Fisher House Wisconsin, Make-A-Wish, Milwaukee Brewers youth clinics, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Brewers Community Foundation, and The Miracle League.

Stanek saluted Lucroy with the firm’s award Thursday evening during the fourth annual Wisconsin Sports Awards ceremony. The event, held at the Kohler Global Communications building in Kohler, highlights excellence in professional, collegiate and high schools sports in Wisconsin.
