Communities hope high-speed rail stations spur development

Now that the Obama administration has allocated $810 million in federal funds to create high-speed rail service between Milwaukee and Madison, the communities along the rail line are making plans for train stations, which could spur transit oriented real estate development opportunities.

Retail plans in store

With the nation's unemployment rate at 10 percent, many consumers have been forced to cut back on their spending. That has hurt retail businesses, and in 2009, development of new retail buildings dropped dramatically.

Doyle says: high-speed rail project is ‘ready to go’

Since the state has already completed extensive planning work, the Milwaukee-to-Madison high-speed rail project is "ready to go," Gov. Jim Doyle said. Construction for the project will begin this year and is expected to be completed by 2013
