Mei Hua Market, LLC recently purchased the 18,125-square-foot MATA Community Media Inc. building at 2404 W. Clybourn St. for 650,000.

May Mo, who has worked with the owners of Mei Hua Market since it opened at 11066 W. National Ave. in West Allis seven years ago, said the plan is to open a second store at the Clybourn Street location in about four months.

“There is a lot of work to do because right now it is an office building so we have to remodel it into a grocery store,” Mo said. “We will offer similar food, Asian and American. There are a lot of college students in the neighborhood, but no food markets close, so maybe we can sell food to the students.”

The Avenues West neighborhood is part of the city’s Near West Side area. Near West Side Partners Inc. a group of stakeholders including Marquette University, Aurora Health Care, Harley-Davidson Motor Co, MillerCoors LLC and the Potawatomi Business Development Corp., has been working to attract a grocery store to that area.
