What does your daily or weekly fitness regime consist of? I usually run 2-3 times a week throughout the year. I also spin once a week at the YMCA in Menomonee Falls. When training for an event I usually add another workout, such as swimming or go for rides on road bike.

What fitness clubs do you belong to, if any? YMCA

Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life? Being healthy and fit has improved every aspect of my life. My overall outlook improves, my stress level decreases, I’m more focused on tasks, and I sleep well. I’m a better spouse, mother, team member and person.

How does personal fitness affect your work life? With the flexibility that is paramount to Ogden & Company, Inc., it is possible to workout during the work day if I feel the need. By having a healthy regime, I am better able to address concerns at work, empathize with employees and help them, and I am more focused. Due to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, I’m happy at work.

How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization? As an organization we support our team’s fitness goals, and encourage wellness. This year will mark our third year that we have created a Company Triathlon Relay Team, which has always been a lot of fun and brings different people together in a way that is not found within the office setting. The teamwork and camaraderie are great. In general, if our team of employees is healthy, they are happier and more positive. That positive attitude can be contagious, which makes Ogden & Company, Inc. a better place in which to work.

What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative? My suggestion would be to start slowly, with something you can enjoy. Find something about which you can be passionate I am committed to my my personal fitness, but it took a number of years to get here. Try new things and explore the options. I would recommend patience, and the understanding that whatever you do; whether it’s taking the stairs, parking further away, or training for an event, it is a move in the right direction. It won’t happen overnight, and if you can get past the initial qualms, discomfort, or excuses, the rewards are so gratifying. Eventually, it can become a part of your life that defines you.
