Amazon employees jump into work mode in Kenosha

Amazon on Wednesday welcomed employees for their first day of work in its 1.1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Kenosha.

More than 1,000 full-time employees will pick, pack and ship Amazon items to customers. Employees will team up with Amazon robotics, among other technologies, to fill customer orders.

To ramp up employee morale, Amazon ushered employees into the facility on a long orange carpet and also invited the Milwaukee Brewers “Racing Sausages” to pay staffers a visit.

Amazon’s Kenosha fulfillment center is housed is a four-story building located northeast of I-94 and 38th Street. The fulfillment center also includes a second 500,000-square-foot building.

The Seattle, Wash.-based company plans to create 1,250 jobs over the next three years and will invest at least $155 million in the two-building Kenosha project, according to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

The Kenosha center is among Amazon’s eighth generation of fulfillment centers. In total, 109 fulfillment centers are located nationwide, each containing millions of products.

Amazon is still in the process of hiring for open positions in Kenosha. Along with competitive wages, employees are immediately eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent match, bonuses, company stock awards and a support network to ensure employee success. The company also offers professional development opportunities for full-time employees through programs like Career Choice, in which the company pledges to pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses in in-demand fields.
