The list of the top five holiday best-selling books on entrepreneurship and small business at 800ceoread.com includes the book by Milwaukee urban farmer and visionary Will Allen.

Allen’s book is titled, “The Good Food Revolution: Growing Healthy Food, People and Communities.”

Allen is the founder of Growing Power, Milwaukee’s urban farm, which has a vision of “Inspiring communities to build sustainable food systems that are equitable and ecologically sound, creating a just world, one food-secure community at a time.”

Allen’s book is the story of his journey as the son of a sharecropper to a missionary of sustainable food systems.

The book advocates for providing those systems where they are most needed: in urban “food deserts,” where convenience stores and unhealthy fast-food restaurants typically are the only food options for the poor.

The Milwaukee project has grown to produce enough vegetables and fish year-round to feed thousands of people.

Allen’s life journey has taken him all the way to the White House.

“From the plots of his Milwaukee urban farm to low-income communities across America, Will Allen has shown us a new type of heroism. Through ‘The Good Food Revolution,’ Allen recounts his effort to reclaim his family’s heritage and, in doing so, confront lingering disparities in racial and economic justice. As the champion of a new and promising movement, Allen is skillfully leading Americans to face one of our greatest domestic issues – our health,” said former President Bill Clinton.
