YMCA planned in Mukwonago

A group of citizens has raised about $9.8 million so far to build a YMCA fitness center in Mukwonago.

The facility would be built in the village’s Gateway Area, southeast of I-43 and Highway 83, on the south side of Wolf Run, across the road from the Walmart store.

The group hopes to have enough funds raised to break ground this summer, and open the facility in August or September of 2012.

The proposal for the facility, which is still going through the village approval process, calls for a three-phase project. The first phase would be a 57,500-square-foot building with a pool area, gymnasium and fitness area. The second phase would be 18,400 square feet and add additional gymnasium and fitness facilities. The third phase would be 17,350 square feet and would add an additional pool area.

If all three phases of the project are completed, the total size of the Mukwonago YMCA facility would be 93,414 square feet.
