Wisconsin gained more than 24,000 private sector jobs from March 2012 to March of this year, according to the latest jobs numbers released today by the Walker administration.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Wisconsin gained 62,000 private-sector jobs during the first two years of Walker’s term.
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson said in a statement today that the latest figures show the state is gaining momentum in job creation. The latest gains included a rise of more than 3,500 construction jobs, representing a 4.4 percent jump.
The data is based on a Census of 96 percent of Wisconsin businesses, which Walker’s administration has been releasing before it is published by the BLS.
“With actual job counts showing Wisconsin added over 62,000 private sector jobs in 2011-12 following the loss of 134,000 private sector jobs during the previous four years, early numbers for 2013 show the momentum of job gains is continuing, which is great news for working families,” Newson said. “More than 24,100 parents, grandparents and neighbors found private-sector jobs over the 12-month period ending in March, giving them the means to put food on the table and support their families. We are heading in the right direction and moving Wisconsin forward.”
Walker promised during his 2010 election campaign to create 250,000 jobs in four years.
