Winery to open in Kohler in late April

The Blind Horse Restaurant and Winery announced today that the grand opening for the winery will be April 25-27.

The restaurant opened in 2012 in a remodeled farmhouse from the late 1800s at the former Dreps family farm site at 6018 Superior Ave.

The barn on the property was torn down and a new 3,500-square-foot building was built for the winery, which includes a patio and bar outside.

The winery is importing grapes from California and Washington state to produce its wines, said general manager and winemaker Thomas Nye. The winery may grow its own grapes in the future, he said.
The winery plans to produce 20,000 bottles of wine in its first year, Nye said. There will be 17 different wines available for tasting and purchase in the new tasting room.

“To be able to open our doors with 17 different wines available is unheard of in the industry, but it’s a testament to the commitment the owners have shown to build and deliver the type of world class experience expected in Kohler,” Nye said.

The upscale restaurant and winery will add another attraction to Kohler, which is best known to visitors for the Kohler Co.’s American Club resort, Blackwolf Run golf course and nearby Whistling Straits golf course.

“It think (Blind Horse Restaurant and Winery) is going to become one of the premier destinations in the area,” Nye said. “There is nothing like it in this area. It is extremely gratifying to launch a winery of this magnitude in Kohler. We are so fortunate to have a fine dining restaurant on the property in which we can showcase the talents of the kitchen, along with our wines.”

Matt Moeller, owner of The Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery said, “We have been planning this day for a long time and I’m thrilled to see the vision finally come together.  We have always believed that creating a unique food and wine destination in Kohler would be tremendous for the region.”

The winery also plans to host corporate events and team building activities, Nye said.
