San Francisco, Calif.-based Wells Fargo & Company recently gave the Milwaukee Community Service Corporation a $10,000 Green Initiative grant.
The money will be used to train 100 at-risk young adults in sustainable construction techniques and emerging renewable energy technologies.
The U.S. Department of Energy has named Milwaukee one of 25 solar cities. A Navigant Consulting study of Milwaukee’s solar water-heating market found a lack of qualified installers as a key barrier to growth. MCSC’s training program will create more opportunities for young adults to obtain entry-level solar water heater installation jobs as well as solar electrical installation jobs.
MCSC‘s training program will also provide training in sustainable building practices articulated by the national Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) program for Home Builders Institute and the installation of geothermal heat pump systems.
